We all love our furry friends and the fact that you are a Barkefellers customer already shows how much you love yours! Since it’s February, here are 10 ways to show your dog how much you love them.
1. Feed your pup healthy food.
There are tons of different types and brands of dog food out there and, unfortunately, many of them do not have the nutrients your pet requires. Do your research to make sure the food you are feeding your dog has the right ingredients. If you need a good place to start your nutrition research, the American College of Veterinary Nutrition (ACVN) provides some great tips and basic guidelines.
2. Exercise your dog.
Making sure your dog has adequate exercise can be especially difficult during these cold winter months, but there are plenty of indoor alternatives to ensure that your best friend is getting the physical activity they need. One great option is our Doggie Day Care services that provide a wide variety of options for dogs of all ages, sizes, and temperaments!
3. Go to the vet.
Regular veterinarian check-ups are essential to ensure that your dog is in good health. Make sure you’re taking your pup to the vet regularly to ensure that they are as happy and healthy as they can be.
4. Sign your dog up for a training program.
It’s never too late to teach an old dog new tricks or… to teach a new dog new tricks! A great way to show your dog you care is by enrolling them in an obedience training program. Why? Proper obedience training improves all aspects of your dog’s life both at home and in public. We offer several, flexible training programs through Barkefellers University that meet the different needs of all types of dogs and owners.
5. Pamper your pet.
It seems that everyone is all about self-care these days, so why not extend a little bit of this luxury to your pup? Whether it be a fresh hair cut or a full spa treatment, our wide range of grooming services will leave your dog looking, feeling, and smelling great.
6. Engage more with your dog.
It may seem simple but with everything we have going on in our lives we may be tired and not as interactive as we could be when we see our furry friends. Setting aside a couple minutes each day to play fetch or cuddle with your pup will bring you two closer together and make each of your days a little bit better.
7. Pet your pup.
Again, it may seem simple but this small gesture truly means a lot to our furry friends. Whether it be a back scratch, belly rub, or a hug, loving physical contact with your dog shows them how much you care. Plus, it has actually been proven that petting dogs helps reduce anxiety in humans!
8. Pay attention to what your dog needs.
Whether this be playing a quick game of tug-o-war, going on a run, watching an episode together, or wrapping your furry friend in a blanket before bed, each dog is a little different in what they want and need from their owners. After all, we know our pets better than anyone else does so make sure they know that too.
9. Plan a fun outing together.
Cities across the country are becoming more and more pet-friendly and luckily for us, Indianapolis is a part of this trend. Bring Fido is a great website that compiles information about dog-friendly hotels, restaurants, parks, you name it! Something as simple as taking your pup with you to a coffee shop can add a lot of excitement to their day.
10. Buy them a little something special.
There are tons of options for fun dog-related gifts: a new toy, fashionable collar, bag of treats from a local doggie bakery, plush bed, etc. A fun little gift can really lighten up your dog’s day!
